Two electricians from Orange County Utilities Water Division have been recognized for their quick actions that led to the safety of a young boy in danger. While on their routine work commute, Virendra “Arune” Persaud and Abdiel Otero Ortiz spotted a young boy playing dangerously close to a busy toll road.
The incident occurred last Friday by the on-ramp of Central Florida’s 417 toll road on the county's east side. Persaud and Ortiz, observing the child in pajamas and tennis shoes scooting around, propelled by instinct, pulled their vehicle over to secure the boy's safety. While they drew nearer to assess the situation, the quick-thinking electricians also duly notified the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, as the Orange County Government reported.
The authorities took over once Persaud and Ortiz had the situation under control, ensuring the child was not harmed. “These two ‘heroes’ went above and beyond to make sure this child was safe,” Mayor Jerry Demings expressed his gratitude, recognizing the exceptional actions of the Utility workers.
These two employees have drawn praise from their superiors, local government officials, and community members who are grateful for the child’s safety.
