An Owatonna man, Jesus Daniel Parra Pitre, was extradited from Panama on charges of attempted murder, felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and attempted false imprisonment. According to Rice County, the 29-year-old fled the country after the alleged attack on his estranged wife, which took place on November 21, 2024. The coordinated efforts by the Rice County Attorney’s Office, alongside the U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Department of Justice, led to Parra Pitre's return to the U.S. to face justice.
The bail hearing for Parra Pitre was on January 23, 2025, where Judge Jeffrey M. Johnson set the bail at $1 million with no conditions and issued a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order. The victim recounted the horrifying experience of being shot at, beaten, and threatened with death. It was in South Alexander Park, Faribault, when Parra Pitre requested a meeting and subsequently assaulted her as she attempted to leave his vehicle. She managed to escape and call for help from her car after fleeing the scene.
Faribault Police Department's investigation at South Alexander Park unveiled blood and spent shell casings on the parking lot ground. Parra Pitre's abandoned vehicle revealed more blood and evidence of gunfire inside. A loaded firearm was found hidden under the passenger’s seat and a cell phone in the backseat indicated obsessive searches linked to firearms, evasion tactics, and implications of murder, suggesting a premeditated intent behind the violent encounter.
The search for Parra Pitre concluded with his capture in Panama, from where he has been returned to the U.S. to stand trial. As per the official report, his next court appearance is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on February 5.
