In a recent cascade of retail thefts, the West Sacramento Police Department has apprehended two individuals accused of pilfering a large quantity of baby formula from local Target stores. The suspects were caught following a strategic police chase that culminated thanks to the aid of both airborne support and the olfactory prowess of a K9 unit. As confirmed by a Facebook post made by the West Sacramento Police Department, two subjects, equipped with a cart swarming with around $1000 worth of baby formula, bolted out the fire exit of a West Sacramento Target store.
The pursuit initiated when the Target Asset Protection team apprised the police of the heist. Officers managed to swiftly locate the escapee's black Lexus, only to learn that this vehicle was already suspect in three other Target thefts within the vicinity that same day. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the duo attempted to slip away after briefly pulling over, hastily abandoning the vehicle, and scattering on foot, therefore attempting to evade the inevitable in broad daylight, as reported by the West Sacramento Police Department.
Law enforcement set up a perimeter and embarked on a chase, fueled by the overhead surveillance of STAR and the canine detection skills of K9 Maverick. It wasn't long before one of the fugitives was discovered stealthily hiding in a vehicle parked in a residential backyard. "With the overhead assistance of STAR, and on foot detection by K9 Maverick, officers located a subject hiding in a vehicle in a backyard in the state streets," the West Sacramento Police Department social media post reported.
Both subjects were eventually apprehended without incident. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the pilfered haul from the West Sacramento Target was actually around $2,400 in baby formula. Moreover, authorities recovered an additional $3,000 worth of stolen formula from the other thefts. In the face of such retail robbery, the West Sacramento Police Department expressed their commitment to actively work alongside local retailers and the District Attorney’s Office to relentlessly combat and deter retail theft, as well as to ensure the safety and security of the community.
