A tragic accident on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena claimed the lives of two individuals early Sunday morning. The collision, involving at least four vehicles, was the result of a wrong-way driver, according to KTLA. The westbound section of the freeway near the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp was shut down as emergency services tended to the injured and worked to clear the wreckage.
The ABC7 report indicated that the incident occurred just after 8 a.m. when a vehicle, entering the freeway from San Rafael Avenue off-ramp, started traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Lisa Derderian, a public information officer for the City of Pasadena, detailed the tragic outcome, with the wrong-way driver being one of the fatalities and another person succumbing to injuries while en route to the hospital.
In total, four additional victims were reported injured in the crash, according to information shared by Derderian. Of these, three of the injured were reported to have suffered moderate injuries, while one incurred minor injuries, as per ABC7.
The freeway was reopened to traffic at around 1:30 p.m., as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol, indicating a closure that spanned several hours, CBS News Los Angeles noted.
