The Philadelphia Taking Care of Business (PHL TCB) Clean Corridors Program is ramping up the fight against litter, expanding to now clean 129 corridors across Philly. Funded by the Department of Commerce, the initiative leans on community-based nonprofits to sweep the sidewalks and snag the trash that dirties the neighborhood commercial corridors.
More than a cleanup crew, PHL TCB is looking to positively impact the community by creating job opportunities for residents and supporting small businesses in maintaining attractive and welcoming spaces. According to an interview by the city's news portal, the program has rallied a force of over 260 TCB Cleaning Ambassadors, all committed to curb the litter issue and advocate for environmental care throughout Philadelphia.
In a series putting a spotlight on neighborhood organizations funded by the program, the East Falls Development Corporation was featured for their efforts within the East Falls Shopping Districts such as Ridge Avenue, Midvale Avenue, and River Road. Michelle Feldman, a rep for the East Falls entity, laid out their mission clearly: to back community-based economic development. They're not only focused on keeping things tidy, but also offering business counseling and planning to improve infrastructure and enhance residents' quality of life.
On staffing, Feldman noted that East Falls operates a lean machine with "three members of the TCB team serving East Falls." Comprised of one supervisor and two cleaning ambassadors, they diligently work 5 days a week to keep the corridors without a speck. It's all part of the grand plan to intimately engage with the community and build rapport with the locals and entrepreneurs, according to an article on the city's news portal.
Feldman invites people to visit East Falls for its clean shopping experience and vibrant cultural events hosted throughout the year. PHL TCB also collaborates with other city programs, such as the Storefront Improvement Program and the Business Security Camera Program, to enhance commercial areas.
