Authorities in Contra Costa County have taken a Pittsburg man into custody following a significant discovery of illegal firearms at his residence. According to a social media post by the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, detectives served a search warrant on Thursday, in connection with a shooting at the Contra Costa County Fairground in Antioch on September 16, 2024. The search led to the arrest of 27-year-old Diego Vasquez-Gomez, whom detectives believe to have been manufacturing and unlawfully distributing weapons, including assault types.

In the course of the investigation, authorities uncovered that one of the suspects involved in the fairground shooting had used an illegally manufactured gun. The search of Vasquez-Gomez's home yielded a cache of assault weapons and a short-barrel rifle, many of which were devoid of serial numbers. The weapons are to undergo testing now to determine any potential links to shootings or criminal activities.

Vasquez-Gomez is currently facing multiple charges, among them manufacturing of a short barrel gun, manufacturing, and selling of an assault weapon, illegal possession of an assault weapon, unlicensed transfer of a firearm, and child endangerment. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, as further mentioned by Contra Costa Sheriff's Office
