A local man found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was caught trying to steal a hefty number of Terrible Towels from a Giant Eagle store. According to a criminal complaint cited by CBS News Pittsburgh, the incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon, near when Pittsburgh was gearing up for the Steelers Wild Card game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Giant Eagle's loss prevention team reportedly spotted the accused, Richard Williams, shoveling multiple items, including 25 Terrible Towels, into paper bags. He then proceeded to walk past the cash registers without attempting to pay. Upon being confronted by the team above, Williams made his way to the parking lot, where he dropped the allegedly stolen goods, Audacy reported.

Williams is believed to have tried to steal 27 items worth over $300. This isn't his first brush with the law regarding retail theft; police records indicate two prior convictions. His attempt at a heist was thwarted, but his actions have led to misdemeanor charges of retail theft being filed against him.

Williams now faces financial consequences, with a $35,000 cash bond set for his release from Butler County Jail. The Giant Eagle store, which is used to handling lost inventory, hasn’t commented on the incident.
