In a solemn nod of respect and mourning, Plano Police officers are banding their badges to honor the memory of Navasota Police Sergeant Mark Butler. The tribute follows a tragic incident that took the life of a dedicated sergeant and an Army veteran. Yesterday, Sergeant Butler met his untimely death after a head-on collision with a suspect's vehicle on the highway, as reported by the Plano Police Department's social media post.
The harrowing events unfolded when a female suspect was being pursued by law enforcement for driving in the wrong direction on a highway. Sergeant Butler, who was almost four years into his service with the Navasota Police Department, collided with the suspect, to seemingly avoid further harm to other motorists. He was then rushed to an area hospital but sadly did not survive the injuries sustained during the collision. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a somber close to a perilous chase.
The Plano Texas Police Department offered their condolences and asked the community to "keep Sergeant Butler's family, loved ones, and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers."
