Heads up, NE Shaver Street residents - the sidewalks are getting a facelift, and it's about time. According to the City of Portland, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is moving forward with its plans to bring a much-needed sidewalk to the south side of NE Shaver Street, spanning from NE 102nd to 115th avenues. If you've been tiptoeing along this stretch, balancing between the road and grass, things are about to get a whole lot safer.
Details of the sidewalk project were shared via an update on the PBOT website, citing features such as a 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk and furnishing zone, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and newly planted street trees. And for those evenings wandering home, better street lighting is coming your way between NE 112th and 115th avenues. It seems like PBOT is pulling out all the stops.
For those who want the inside scoop on the progress, PBOT's got you covered. They'll be presenting at the Parkrose Neighborhood Association meeting happening on Tuesday, January 21, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, as per the City of Portland.
Let's hope the rest of the project goes off without a hitch, and residents can soon enjoy a safer, more welcoming NE Shaver Street. If you have questions or are interested in knowing more about the upcoming changes to your neighborhood, make sure to visit the project website.
