It's not every day that a bartender becomes the story but in Houston’s The Railyard, that’s exactly what happened when Post Malone stopped by on Christmas Eve. As reported by CW39 Houston, the hip-hop sensation exchanged his musical notes for a monetary note to the tune of a $20,000 tip, leaving bartender Renee Brown in a state of shock and delight.
Malone, known for tracks that blur genre lines as well as his idiosyncratic persona, was in Houston for a performance with Beyoncé, but it was his off-stage antics that captured the spotlight this time. Regulars at The Railyard insisted on buying Malone's drinks throughout the evening, yet the artist sought to leave his own mark in a more substantial way, asking the bar staff to run a small tab so he could contribute a gratuity, and contribute he did. Brown, a single mother who juggles two jobs while homeschooling her daughter, described the tip as “life-changing,” as noted by CW39 Houston.
As Houston CultureMap pointed out, "One of the most amazing things about this bar is that you never know who is going to walk through the door." This sentiment was echoed by The Railyard’s owner, Trey Melcher. With a clientele that sometimes includes stars like David Spade and Kiefer Sutherland, the bar is no stranger to celebrity patrons, but Malone's act of generosity has certainly raised the bar.
The relaxed atmosphere of The Railyard, a fixture in the local social scene, might just have contributed to Malone's munificent mood. Known for its daily happy hour, sports broadcasts, and casual vibe, Malone's visit and subsequent generosity have certainly cemented its reputation as a place where extraordinary things happen, amidst the most ordinary circumstances. "I try to go above and beyond to take care of all of our customers, and loved seeing them interact with Post Malone when he visited — he was so genuine and made everyone feel comfortable," Brown told Houston CultureMap.
