Today marks a critical juncture in creating the Pulse memorial, as it's the final day for public input on the proposed design. As reported by ClickOrlando, the Pulse Memorial Advisory Council previously presented preliminary concepts featuring a welcoming center, 49 pillars in memory of the victims, and an eye-catching multicolored glass wall. To honor the past, the plan will entail demolishing much of the existing nightclub, preserving only a single wall. An online survey is available, closing at midnight, seeking opinions on the design, its alignment with the committee's vision, and individual design elements.
In their December meeting, detailed by WESH, the Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee reached a tentative consensus on a single design approach. The design would display the 49 victims' names and incorporate elements like a waterfall and spaces for victims' shoes. Committee member Nancy Rosado underscored the urgency, saying, "We have to wrap this up."
Opinions have been divided over certain design aspects, as some committee members argued passionately on using colors reflective of the LGBTQ+ rainbow flag. One committee member explained the significance, as per WESH, noting, "Many of these people have been silenced by their families already. By erasing this rainbow flag is literally doing what he said when we are not putting something in Spanish to English," pinpointing potential erasure as a critical concern.
The committee has also emphasized the importance of bilingual interpretation in memorial writings. As reported by WESH, following today's feedback session, an adjusted rendering reflecting the committee's discussions from last month will be presented on February 4.
