Officers were dispatched to perform a welfare check at a residential address where they found the individual isolated in the garage. Subsequent to the assessment of the situation, the Crisis Negotiation Team arrived to engage the subject, however, events unfolded rapidly with officers noting several worrisome signs - including the pouring of liquids from the garage and unsettling odors such statements implying an intent to start a fire, leading to heightened alertness among the officers. A tactical response vehicle was quickly brought to the scene, serving as a shield for those in the immediate vicinity, as reported by the Rocklin Police Department.
The involvement of COPPS, who provided aerial reconnaissance with a drone, revealed objects alight near the garage, escalating the severity of the response needed. It was soon after that sighting officers observed flames and smoke billowing from the confined space.
