El Paso Fire Department crews rapidly responded to a hazmat situation on Thursday in an industrial segment of South El Paso, at 1601 East 4th Avenue, close to the border with Mexico. The event, unfolded in a district characterized by warehouses, as reported by KVIA.
Emergency teams were called to the scene due to an ammonia leak, a substance widely used as a refrigerant in various industries, inclusive of food production and HVAC systems, KFOX-TV reported. The potency of ammonia, known for its pivotal role in refrigeration was at the heart of concern for the workers and the surrounding community.
According to KTSM, the emergency crews were able to isolate the leaks, take control of the situation, and eliminate the immediate hazards presented by the leak. "There is no longer a threat in the building affected by the leak and surrounding areas," the Fire Department affirmed, as per KTSM, providing a measure of relief to concerned residents and local businesses.
