Saturday's agenda in Rockville is set for some empowering discourse as the Montgomery County Commission for Women brings together a panel of awe-inspiring women leaders who have reshaped their respective industries. The 45th Annual Women’s Legislative Briefing, taking place at The Universities at Shady Grove, will focus on trailblazers who've pioneered change, as noted in a post on the Montgomery County Commission's official website.
Under the theme "Breaking Barriers: Women Who Inspire and Innovate," attendees can expect to hear from women like The Honorable Brooke Lierman, Karyn N. Onyeneho, and Margarita Womack, who, have not only scaled professional heights but also fostered inclusivity and innovation along their journeys. Brooke Lierman, the first woman independently holding a Maryland constitutional office, is among the panelists, previously awarded over 60 percent of the vote when elected Maryland's 34th Comptroller in 2022, according to the Montgomery County Commission's release.
Joining Lierman is Karyn N. Onyeneho, acclaimed for her work in health equity and digital health through her initiative, Color of Genes. Onyeneho also contributes as a senior advisor for Genomic Data Sharing at the NIH. Entrepreneur Margarita Womack, recognized for her company Latin Goodness Foods, empowers underserved women and has received accolades including Small Business Leader of the Year by Washington Business Journal's CEOs of the Year Awards and the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ for the Mid-Atlantic region.
The event's moderation comes from the seasoned Jordan Lindsay, a Morgan State University alum and Emmy Award nominee, who previously held the anchor desk for DC News Now. The briefing isn’t just a platform for keynotes. It will also feature remarks from notable local leaders such as Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart, among others. The WLB also welcomes Ayza Siddiqui, an emerging leader and high school junior, poised to share her insights and aspirations with attendees. To get the full line-up visit the WLB website.
Those interested in participating in the Women’s Legislative Briefing can pre-register through Eventbrite, and parents will be relieved to find free childcare available for kids ages 2-10; however, space is limited.
