
A Rome Middle School student was taken into custody following a potential threat on social media. The Rome City Police, in collaboration with Rome City Schools, conducted an investigation that led to the student's detention, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The investigation is ongoing.
Rome City Police Chief Denise Downer-McKinney emphasized, "We take all threats to our schools seriously. There is a no-tolerance policy to anyone threatening violence or harm at a school." The department is urging the community to report any threats, stating, "if you or someone you know is witness to written or spoken threats of violence or destruction, please call 9-1-1, the Anonymous Crime Tip Line at 706-236-5000, or the Rome Police Department at 706-238-5111." This effort aims to ensure a safe school environment with the community's support, as stated by Coosa Valley News.
The Rome Police Department advised parents to monitor their children's social media, stating, "PARENTS — monitor your child's social media. Be nosey. You don't have to be their friend — you have to be their protector," according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
