A tragic incident unfolded in Polk County yesterday evening, when 37-year-old Kevin Loring from Saint Cloud was fatally injured in a collision involving his motorcycle and a van. The crash occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Charles Street near Frostproof, and despite the fact that Loring was wearing a helmet, his injuries proved to be fatal. The 48-year-old woman driving the van turned into the motorcycle's path while making a left turn, resulting in the calamitous encounter, as reported by FOX 13 News.
Witnesses to the heart-rending event described the aftermath of the collision, in which Loring was ejected from his black 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle; the details emerging from the scene were grim, according to a Tampa Free Press article. The van, identified as a silver 2017 Nissan Quest, stopped at the intersection before turning across the motorcyclist's path, it tells a story of a sudden and harrowing altercation between man and machine. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit has taken up the investigation to piece together the moments leading up to and throughout the crash.
In a continuation of the narrative relayed by WTSP, the woman at the helm of the van was transported by ambulance with minor injuries following the incident. The exact series of events that precipitated the fatal encounter are still under scrutiny, but it is clear that a confluence of movements, tragic in timing and outcome, coalesced at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Charles Street.
