Last night at 11:15 p.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Department hurried to the scene of a structure fire, with a County Fire UAV arriving just one minute after dispatch. The incident, located near the intersection of G Street and Congress Street, involved a substantial blaze within a large commercial building that rapidly spread through a cabinet manufacturing business and threatened an adjacent strip mall. According to a Facebook post by the San Bernardino County Fire Department, firefighters engaged in an evacuation of the structures while attempting an aggressive interior assault on the flames.
While battling the fire, the situation escalated, prompting a second and third alarm to muster further assistance. The degree of structural compromise and fire involvement ultimately led to a defensive attack by the responding crews, as the fire trespassed to neighboring businesses and ignited hundreds of bales of vinyl products in an exterior storage area. The post stated, "The fire was brought under control two hours after dispatch" and continued with the action that an excavator had to demolish the masonry walls to enable crews to overhaul the charred remains of the primary structure, as detailed by the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters as a result of the fire. "Damage estimates are still being compiled, however the primary structure is a total loss," the department's public information officer, Eric Sherwin, announced, as per the San Bernardino County Fire Department. The root of the conflagration remains a subject of investigation by the County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
