San Bernardino Man Charged with Assaulting Pregnant Woman, Released on BailSource: Google Street View

A man has been released on bail after being charged with the assault of a pregnant woman in San Bernardino County. Deputies responded to a 911 call before 10 a.m. Sunday, on the 17700 block of Randall Avenue, after being notified of the assault. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jose Vargas Zambrano, had allegedly engaged in physical violence against a woman reported to be carrying his child during an argument, as KTLA detailed.

The incident escalated when Zambrano "repeatedly struck her, forced her back into a bedroom, held her down, and choked her," as stated by the SBSD Fontana Sheriff's Department. He further threatened the victim with a knife to prevent her from leaving the residence to seek help. The victim managed to escape and run for help, found by deputies suffering from injuries related to the assault. After escaping, medical personnel evaluated her at the scene.

Upon deputies' arrival, Zambrano was no longer armed with the knife but was reluctant to surrender. To ensure he did not rearm himself with the knife or another weapon, deputies forcibly entered the home, ultimately taking Zambrano into custody. He was charged with several offenses, including domestic violence with injuries, false imprisonment, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and brandishing a weapon, according to the SBSD Fontana Sheriff's Department. Despite the serious nature of these charges, Zambrano posted the $50,000 bail and was released from custody.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are calling for anyone with further information to reach out. Public appeals have been made by the Fontana Sheriff's Station, and individuals wishing to provide information while remaining anonymous are encouraged to contact the We-Tip Hotline.
