Yesterday, a San Mateo police officer's routine patrol took a decisive turn. At around 1:53 a.m., the officer observed a vehicle, its registration sticker expired, oddly stationary amid S. El Camino Real's flow near 3rd Avenue. The subsequent traffic stop initiated by the officer led to an unexpected discovery, a methamphetamine pipe and a small bag of what appeared to be methamphetamine inside the vehicle of Daniel Caballero.
As reported by the San Mateo Police Department, Caballero distanced himself from the vehicle, attempting to walk away before being apprehended. The encounter escalated as a records check revealed Caballero's criminal history, punctuated with two or more prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance. Propelled by the stringent guidelines of Proposition 36, Caballero found himself under arrest, once more entangled in the hands of justice, booked into the San Mateo County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Caballero now faces charges codified as 11395(b)(1) HS for possession of a controlled substance with two or more prior convictions, 11377(a) HS for possession of a controlled substance, and 11364(a) HS for possession of drug paraphernalia.
