Announced on January 23, Police Chief Jeff Walther is set to take up the mantle of interim assistant city manager beginning January 27, according to a recent news release from the City of Scottsdale. Walther has an extensive 30-year tenure with the Scottsdale Police Department, praised for his leadership which culminated in receiving both the title of Arizona's "Chief of the Year" in 2022 and the 2024 City of Scottsdale Bill Donaldson Award.
Interim City Manager Greg Caton, having served Scottsdale for years, declared that Walther's new role will ensure the city's firm standing and bolster the organization looking forward. Maintaining his influence on the Police Department, Walther also takes charge of Communications and Human Resources, as reported by the City of Scottsdale. Moving up to fill the void that Walther leaves is Assistant Police Chief Joe LeDuc, who steps into his shoes as the interim police chief. With 33 years under his belt in the same department, LeDuc boasts a diverse background in leadership positions, including time spent at the helm of Internal Affairs and Special Investigations. As the assistant chief since 2021, LeDuc's knack for leadership has been recognized through various awards, a testament to his dedication and aptitude for the role.
LeDuc himself expressed his commitment to the high standards set by his predecessor. "I am honored to lead and continue the legacy of excellence established by Chief Walther," he said, as stated by the City of Scottsdale.
