Yesterday morning, Seattle police resolved a tense standoff at a West Seattle Safeway, detaining an individual following reports of an assault involving a female victim, authorities confirmed the suspect, who appeared under the influence of methamphetamine, brandished a dagger during the altercation, the Seattle Police Department detailed in a press release.
The incident began when officers responded around 10:12 am to the reported assault, the suspect was then traced to the Safeway located on the 9600 block of 28th Avenue Southwest where he was noncompliant with police orders, leading to a standoff; during this time, negotiators were called to the scene in an attempt to persuade the suspect to surrender peacefully.
Led by the Seattle Police, the standoff continued for several hours before the man was apprehended, faced with charges including felony assault, harassment, and indecent liberties, following the arrest, the dagger involved in the assault was secured by the police, as per the official account from the Seattle Police Department.
Subsequent to the arrest, the suspect received on-site medical attention from King County Firefighters before being sent to Harborview Medical Center for an evaluation, he is expected to be booked into the King County Jail once medically cleared.
