After fifty years of dedicated service to the St. Louis community, the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment, affectionately known as SLATE, is celebrating a major milestone. This landmark organization has spent half a century aiding city residents in their quests to find meaningful employment and has similarly assisted employers in finding the skilled workforce they require.
Throughout 2025, SLATE will be rolling out a series of events and initiatives to commemorate its golden anniversary. Early in the year, a refreshed brand identity that mirrors the agency's strategic vision for the future will be introduced. What further SU-resonates as a beacon of growth is SLATE's commitment to continue offering quarterly job fairs, networking opportunities, resource gatherings, and community events.
SLATE's work has found vocal support in the city's leadership, including Mayor Tishaura O. Jones, who lauded the agency in a statement. "For fifty years, SLATE has helped to transform the economic landscape of our city by connecting residents with employment opportunities," Mayor Jones said in a statement obtained by City of St. Louis. She emphasized the pivotal role of employment in ensuring the dignity of citizens and shared her enthusiasm for continued collaboration between SLATE and the City of St. Louis.
Expressing optimism about the future, SLATE Executive Director Fredrecka McGlown highlighted the organization's intention to remain closely in tune with the community's needs. "As we head into our next 50 years of service to the community, we will continue to keep our fingers on the pulse of what the community needs to thrive," McGlown said in a statement obtained by City of St. Louis. This sentiment reinforces SLATE's mission to tirelessly work to equip St. Louis residents with necessary employment and training tools to successfully compete in the evolving job market.
