On Wednesday, a natural gas leak prompted precautionary evacuations in Sunland, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). The incident, given the identifier INC#0979, occurred at approximately 12:05 PM on 10480 N Sunland Blvd. The LAFD, along with So Cal Gas representatives, responded to the scene to investigate the leak located near multiple residential buildings.
Crews swiftly moved to evacuate nearby buildings as a preventative measure. According to the alert from LAFD, So Cal Gas crews were actively working on the site to secure the gas leak, while LAFD personnel were set to assist in ensuring the effective repopulation of residents to their homes once the area was deemed safe.
The leak stemmed from a 2-inch gas line and resulted in the temporary evacuation of roughly 30 occupants from 28 units within a large condominium building. As noted in a subsequent LAFD update, So Cal Gas successfully secured the gas leak, and fire companies remained on the scene to monitor the situation. The update assured that residents would be allowed back into their units once it was confirmed to be safe to do so.
