In the early hours of New Year's Day, a structure fire in Somerset resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies, along with Pioneer Fire and Cal Fire personnel, responded to the blaze in the 7000 block of Mt. Aukum Road around 3:50 am.
Despite efforts to extinguish the fire, it was confirmed by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office through a social media post that the residence, occupied by multiple people at the time.
The Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident. Authorities are working to determine the origin and progression of the fire. Efforts to identify the victims and notify their next of kin are underway.
