
The streets of Southeast D.C. now bear the silent testimony to yet another grief because the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed they are piecing together the events of a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a local man. According to a release by MPD, on Wednesday, around 8:59 p.m., 64-year-old Michael McCorkle was walking, accompanying his bicycle, when a vehicle struck him in the roadway on the 4400 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. The vehicle did not stop; it left McCorkle in a critical state. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries after D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services executed all possible lifesaving measures.
The search for the elusive driver is ongoing, and the authorities have called for public help to bring closure to this distressing incident. Surveillance footage capturing the suspect’s vehicle was released by law enforcement in hopes it would advance their investigation.
People with any information regarding the hit-and-run are urged to come forward and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
