Springfield Police arrested two individuals after a shooting on Cambridge Street last Sunday. Officers were alerted to gunfire by ShotSpotter technology and found Madwin Lluveras, who had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A loaded gun was recovered at the scene, according to the Springfield Police Department.
Lluveras was taken to Baystate for medical care. Springfield Police used city cameras to observe him discarding a firearm into a trash can. Another individual retrieved it and passed it to a vehicle, which then left the scene. Police located the vehicle on State Street, conducted a traffic stop, and recovered the weapon, a stolen firearm from North Carolina with 20 rounds, capable of holding 30, as reported by the Springfield Police Department.
Kelvin Martinez, 24, and his passenger, 36-year-old Lluveras, were arrested after Lluveras fired several shots and discarded the weapon. Lluveras faces charges for illegal firearm use and receiving stolen property, while Martinez is charged with firearm possession, improper storage, and tampering with evidence. Both now face serious legal consequences for their actions, as stated by the Springfield Police Department.
