The St. Louis metro area braces for a wave of winter weather, expected to interfere with today's morning commute. Following reports from FOX 2 Now, the onset of snow is anticipated to make its presence known yesterday night, intensifying til today. A winter weather advisory is in full effect for the region, ushering in likely disruptions as commuters take to the roads in the early hours.
A Winter Weather Advisory issued for Friday sees the St. Louis region grappling with an expected snowfall between 2 to 3 inches, primarily impacting the morning commute. "There probably will be some degree of minor impact," stated Matt Beitscher, lead meteorologist for the National Weather Service in St. Louis, in a RiverBender.com interview. While snow is not forecast to be heavy, it poses challenges as parts of roads may be partly covered, Beitscher advises commuters to take their time on the roads.
Transit services are also adjusting to accommodate the snowy conditions. Metro Transit has shared updates on their operations through First Alert 4, maintaining regular service on most routes apart from the #41 Lee, #42 Sarah, #59 Oakland, and #60 Shepley-Lilac due to the snow. Customers can anticipate delays today and are urged to use caution when accessing public transport.
Throughout the ordeal, temperatures are expected to hover above freezing during daytime, with slight variations across the region. The east side of the river may see temperatures a notch below freezing, as according to a statement obtained by RiverBender.com.
For up-to-the-minute transit updates, MetroBus customers can use the Transit app or text for real-time bus statuses, while the MetroLink anticipates maintaining regular weekday service hours. Precautions have been put in place to manage the impact of sliding tires, promising a slight warm-up by next Thursday, Jan. 16, when temperatures are expected to ascend back to the Mmid-30s, details confirmed by First Alert 4.
