As the City of St. Louis Park gears up for the National Day of Racial Healing, they've announced Prince Corbett as a key panel speaker for the event. The community is invited to come together on Monday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Westwood Hills Nature Center for an evening that promises meaningful dialogue and reflection on the tapestry of cultures and experiences that shape the area. This program is poised to offer conversations driven by students from the local St. Louis Park Public Schools and Benilde-St. Margaret's, according to a social media post by the City of St. Louis Park.
Prince Corbett, tasked with the significant role of addressing issues of racial disparities in the public sector, serves as the Director of the Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Department for the City of Minneapolis. His efforts, honed from over 15 years in the non-profit and public realms, focus on reforming policies and systems that perpetuate racial inequality. Corbett's determination is not merely professional, but deeply personal – as a former homeless youth, a survivor of the foster care system and an individual who has endured incarceration, he exemplifies resilience and commitment to societal transformation.
Those interested in participating in the National Day of Racial Healing can register for the event through a link provided by the City of St. Louis Park. The initiative stands as a vibrant opportunity to engage with and appreciate the diverse backgrounds that make up the community.
Corbett's trajectory has been one marked by a quest for equity and justice. Notably, during the turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic, he co-led Ramsey County’s Racial Equity and Community Engagement Response Team, creating strategies aimed at reducing the pandemic's racial repercussions. Currently, he also serves as vice-chair for the Minnesota Board of Public Defense, further entrenching his role within the fabric of advocacy and community upliftment. His story and experience are compelling additions to the dialogue planned for the National Day of Racial Healing event, with an objective to educate and inspire a broadening of horizons for all in attendance.
