The discovery of a deceased bulldog puppy inside a backpack in Long Island has prompted the Suffolk County SPCA to offer a reward for information. According to NBC New York, the backpack with the puppy's remains was found in the woods on Miller Place-Yaphank Road, close to Rocky Point Pine Barrens State Forest. The bag was discovered on November 14, but details of the grisly find were not made available until recently.
The authorities noted that the puppy, determined to be either a French or English bulldog, was between six months and a year old at the time of death. The SPCA has announced a $3,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. An investigation is currently ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the puppy's demise.
"No other information was immediately available," a Tuesday press release from the SPCA stated. Individuals who have details about the incident are encouraged to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722, as noted by NBC New York. The act of aggravated cruelty to animals, which includes intentional killing or causing serious injury to a companion animal, is a felony under New York State law.
The local community has been urged to report any witnessed acts of animal cruelty or neglect to the authorities.
