
An officer-involved shooting in Alhambra on Saturday morning resulted in a fatality, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The incident, which took place just after 11:45 a.m. on the 1200 block of S. Almansor Street, is still under investigation by the Alhambra Police Department, with assistance from the Sheriff's Department. A suspect was shot by police and later died from the injuries sustained, after being transported to a local hospital, according to CBS News Los Angeles.
Further details emerged about the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting. Authorities responded to reports of a suicidal man armed with a knife at the aforementioned location. Per the Sheriff's Department, officers ordered the man to drop the knife. However, he refused and continued advancing towards them in an “aggressive manner.” Police then opened fire, resulting in the man's death. A large kitchen knife was recovered at the scene of the shooting, KTLA reports. No officers were reported as being injured during the incident.
The Sheriff’s Information Bureau reiterated the request for public assistance in a statement. "Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau," urging those who wish to remain anonymous to utilize "Crime Stoppers" for submitting tips, as stated by the LASD.
