The Sacramento Police Department has announced the charging of 21-year-old Brandon McGrath of Sacramento for his alleged involvement in a string of armed robberies targeting taco stands in the city.
According to the Sacramento Police Department's Facebook post, the series of robberies began on October 28, 2024, with the suspect violently striking a female employee with a handgun at Chando’s Tacos. The described assailant, McGrath, is accused again of using a handgun to intimidate and rob employees at two other taco stands on the following day. In all cases, the suspect managed to evade police arriving on the scenes of the crimes.
McGrath's spree came to an end after an attempted robbery last Friday, near Fruitridge Rd and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Employees at the taco stand fought back, subduing McGrath until law enforcement, including Sacramento Police Officers and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, arrived to take him into custody. McGrath was initially held for the attempted robbery before detectives, piecing together evidence from the earlier incidents, charged him with the three October robberies on Tuesday.
The Sacramento Police Department praised the collaborative effort, stating, "This was a collaborative effort between our officers, detectives, the Sheriff’s Department, and just as importantly, the community." McGrath, who is still in custody, faces serious charges and may be prosecuted for the violent offenses involving these small businesses.
