Last Saturday night in Worcester, Massachusetts, an underground explosion launched a manhole cover into the air at the intersection of Grafton and Franklin Streets. The incident was captured on MB Lounge's surveillance footage, and there were no reported injuries, according to NBC Boston.
The CBS News Boston video shows a silver SUV narrowly avoiding a manhole cover. The driver later texted Marc Guinette, saying, "She did text me saying thanks for the video footage because I was the woman in the silver car and that manhole cover came down three feet from my vehicle and I'm just thankful I'm still alive."
Fire crews responded to a smoking manhole in Worcester before an explosion caused a manhole cover to be dislodged. The fire self-extinguished, and there were no injuries. Eversource and National Grid investigated the scene, with Eversource stating, "We were contacted by the Worcester Fire Department as part of the emergency response. We thoroughly surveyed our system and equipment for any possible damage." The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but no gas leaks or dangerous levels were found, as reported by NBC Boston.
