The Seattle police department's SWAT team apprehended a 38-year-old man connected to a drive-by shooting incident in Greenwood last month, as reported by the SPD Blotter. Following a monthslong investigation by the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU), the convicted felon was located inside a residence on the 300 block of 1st Avenue North in Lower Queen Anne on Monday.
Driving a rented Jeep, the suspect allegedly fired at a Maserati driver, with both vehicles later being recovered during the investigation. The SWAT team, backed by detectives of the GVRU, served a search warrant at the suspect's residence, making their presence known, a move that prompted frantic movement from the occupants inside. In an attempt to avert capture, the suspect tried climbing out onto the ledge of the six-story apartment building during the forced entry by SWAT.
Seattle police then proceeded to the roof, convincing him that his only viable options were surrender or taking the perilous leap from the building. The standoff was resolved when he eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Inside the apartment, detectives found two firearms, ammunition, narcotics, and other evidence, which the convicted felon is prohibited from possessing.
In a statement obtained by the Seattle Police Department, the GVRU Lieutenant commended the operation, saying, “This arrest was possible based on the evidence gathered by North Patrol, and tireless work from GVRU.” He stated, "Excellent investigation that culminated with holding the suspect accountable and taking multiple guns out of dangerous hands." Booked into the King County Jail, the suspect faces charges for felony investigation of Assault, Drive-by Shooting, and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
