Tacoma and Pierce County have been designated as an official Fan Zone for the FIFA World Cup 2026 celebrations. This announcement, made by Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards and Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello, highlights plans for the region to host events such as live match screenings, cultural exhibitions, and soccer clinics during the tournament, according to the Pierce County website.
"This is a historic day for Tacoma and Pierce County," Woodards stated. Woodards' vision is to showcase the unique energy, diversity, and spirit of Tacoma and Pierce County on a global scale. Mello addressed the significance of the moment as well, "Welcoming the world to the South Sound is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase our dynamic region," he said in the Pierce County's official announcement.
In the coming months, SeattleFWC26's local Fan Zone will host a variety of events. Giant screens will be set up in public spaces for live match screenings. Local talent will perform in cultural exhibitions, showcasing the region’s heritage through music, art, and performance. Interactive soccer clinics will engage the community, promoting the game for all ages.
