A Tampa residence experienced a severe fire yesterday night, leading to the displacement of its human occupants and endangering the lives of their two pet dogs. The incident took place at a home located on Little River Drive, with flames reported to have been shooting through the roof and windows as emergency services were alerted.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to the scene at approximately 8:52 p.m., with the first unit arriving within four minutes of the call, according to details reported by Tampa Free Press. Efforts to rescue the trapped animals were immediate but, were hindered when a part of the roof collapsed, forcing firefighters to withdraw temporarily for their own safety.
Despite the challenging conditions, "firefighters immediately went inside the home to rescue the pets," as WFLA News documented. One of the dogs was rescued successfully from the blaze, though the second dog remained unaccounted for after the search. A heartening note amidst the chaos was that no residents or firefighters sustained injuries during the emergency response.
The fire was reportedly under control within an hour, as described in a release noted by ABC Action News. However, the second dog has, not been found, and the current status is unknown. The house sustained significant damage from the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation by authorities, added the news outlet.
