Credit card skimmers have been found in two 7-Eleven ATMs in Tampa. A maintenance worker first discovered a skimming device on an ATM at the 7-Eleven located at 1930 N. Dale Mabry Hwy. Shortly after, another skimmer was reported at a different 7-Eleven at 2717 W. Hillsborough Ave.
According to the Tampa Police Department, detectives are urging people who recently used these ATMs to review their bank statements for any unusual activity. The department offered tips to help prevent falling victim to skimming, such as checking ATMs for signs of tampering, misalignment, or unfamiliar attachments.
The police also recommend covering the keypad when entering a PIN to prevent unauthorized viewing. Additionally, it is suggested to avoid using ATMs in isolated or poorly lit areas, as these can be targets for skimming devices.
To protect against fraud, it is important to regularly monitor bank and credit card statements and report any unauthorized charges immediately. Updating PINs and passwords and using credit cards with fraud protection are also advised.
If you have used one of the affected 7-Eleven ATMs and suspect fraud, contact the Tampa Police Department at 813.231.6130 and reference report number 25-14095.
