Two women are in serious condition following a shooting in Tampa, and a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, as reported by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The shooting occurred in the early hours last Sunday on Fowler Avenue, and Addy Ortuno Arroyo was arrested yesterday after detectives pieced together the events leading up to the altercation.
The WFLA News Channel 8 reports that deputies arrived on the scene at approximately 3:40 a.m. to find the injured women each with a gunshot wound, and, although serious, the injuries incurred were non-fatal at the time of discovery, the medical staff subsequently took them to the hospital where they have been receiving treatment for their injuries with great care. Ortuno Arroyo faces multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery.
In line with a statement by Sheriff Chad Chronister, which was highlighted in an article by HCSO's press release, the sheriff's office worked "tirelessly to identify and arrest the suspect responsible for this senseless act of violence." This sentiment echoes across local news outlets, with Fox 13 News also covering the swift action taken by law enforcement to apprehend the suspect.
After conducting their investigation, detectives were able to arrest Ortuno Arroyo who now faces a range of charges including discharge of a firearm in public or on residential property and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the suspect was reportedly taken into custody without incident Sheriff Chronister emphasized the dedication of the detectives involved, their actions reflecting a commitment to justice and community safety, according to a statement obtained from Fox 13 News.
The HCSO has confirmed that the investigation into the shooting remains active; additional updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office as they become available.
