In a disturbing turn of events, a gun exchange in Surprise, Arizona spiraled into violence, with a 16-year-old boy being shot and presently recovering in serious but stable condition. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near 140th Avenue and Greenway Road on Monday, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The Surprise Police Department revealed that two groups of males engaged in gunfire during what was supposed to be a firearm trade. The victim was transported to the hospital prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Osvaldo Javier Rojas, 21, stands accused of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and discharging a firearm within city limits in connection to the shooting. Caught amid the aftermath, a second individual, Kevin Schwahn, 19, has been arrested on suspicion of hindering prosecution. With the investigation still unfolding, Surprise Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, providing contact details for tips.
Meanwhile, a separate but equally heinous encounter in Phoenix resulted in the death of 17-year-old Anthony Rabadan, who was allegedly selling vape cartridges to two individuals reported to have gang affiliations. The suspects, identified as Salvadora Montenegro and Adrian Summa, both 18, allegedly shot Rabadan near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road on December 23, as indicated in a 12 News report. The robbery ploy, detailed in court documents, was interrupted when Rabadan was met with fatal gunshot wounds.
Montenegro and Summa, with tattoos cross their faces right near the left of their eyes, were spotted by witnesses during the incident. Having prior encounters with the judiciary system, the suspects were allegedly seen in Instagram interactions brandishing the gun later believed by police to be the homicide weapon. Arrested last Thursday, they now face charges for murder and robbery.
