A 16-year-old boy in Wayne County experienced a harrowing accident this morning after falling through the ice while ice skating on a frozen pond. According to News 5 Cleveland, the incident occurred approximately at 10:30 a.m. in the 17000 block of Fulton Road in Marshallville.
Initially, the boy was with family members who were clearing snow to skate on the pond they owned, but after they left, only the teen remained, and that's when the accident happened. Subsequently, a neighbor observed his struggle and placed a 911 call to alert the authorities of the urgent situation. The Wooster Township Fire Department, alongside the Marshallville Fire Department, promptly arrived to conduct a rescue attempt, as detailed in a report by WKYC Studios. The efforts escalated with the engagement of the Wayne County Dive Team, wearing ice suits, who located and retrieved the unresponsive teenager from the frigid waters.
The 16-year-old, confirmed as Amish by officials and reported by Cleveland 19 News, was then transported to Aultman Orrville Hospital for immediate medical attention. Following advanced care requirements, he was transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital; however, the authorities have not released any details regarding his identity or current medical condition.
