
On the evening of December 30, 2024, a traffic incident on La Serena Way in Temecula raised concerns about electric motorcycle safety and underage operation on public roads. According to a report from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, four juveniles riding two electric motorcycles collided with a sedan, resulting in minor to moderate injuries for three of the youths involved.
The investigation undertaken by the Southwest Sheriff’s Station’s Accident Investigators disclosed that the juveniles were traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. The victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital, and the cause of the collision is still under inquiry, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. The identities of those involved have yet to be withheld as the investigation continues.
The Southwest Sheriff’s Station emphasized the need for proper credentials and safety equipment when operating such vehicles on roadways. They issued a reminder stating that "an 'e-bike' without pedals and more than a 750-watt motor is an electric motorcycle and cannot be legally operated by unlicensed youth on public thoroughfares."
