Police patrol in East El Paso took a dangerous turn early last week when an incident involving gunfire led to a vehicle chase and subsequent arrest of three suspects. The alarming scenario began when officers patrolling near Edgemere and Lee Trevino heard shots fired around 2:30 a.m. on January 17. According to the City of El Paso from the El Paso Police Department, the officers spotted a white car traveling east on Edgemere as they were surveying the area.
Upon attempting to pull the vehicle over, authorities observed "a person pointing a rifle out the window at the officers." The suspects’ car then proceeded to evade police, leading to a short pursuit, which ended with the suspect's vehicle crashing. The individuals, identified as Parga, Kish, and Espindola, tried to escape on foot following the crash but were ultimately apprehended by the police. All suspects were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on various charges related to the incident.
The police successfully retrieved a rifle and two handguns from the suspects' vehicle. This swift response by the El Paso Police limited any further potential harm and highlighted the ever-present risks law enforcement officers face while on duty. These events underscore the volatile situations police officers regularly encounter and the rapid decision-making required in the pursuit of public safety.
