
The City of Bellevue has confirmed the appointment of Trisna Tanus as the new city attorney, a role she stepped into on an acting basis for the majority of 2024. Tanus, whose tenure as deputy city attorney began in 2023, brings a breadth of legal experience to her new permanent position, which includes a rich history of serving the city in various legal capacities over the past eight years. According to an announcement by the City of Bellevue, the confirmation came after an extensive public recruitment process that highlighted Tanus as the front-runner for the role.
Bellevue's City Manager Diane Carlson commended Tanus, saying, "Trisna is an inclusive and collaborative leader and a skilled legal advisor to many leadership teams at the city including our City Council and boards and commissions," as stated by the City of Bellevue. Carlson expressed her confidence in Tanus's capabilities, citing her integrity and intelligence, which are expected to benefit the City of Bellevue and its community. Tanus joined the City of Bellevue in 2016, and has been a pivotal figure in the Development Services Department, a consulting attorney, and as code and policy director for Development Services. Throughout her career, she has tackled critical issues like land use, public contracting, environment, finance, and real property.
In a statement made by the City of Bellevue, Tanus shared her enthusiasm for Bellevue's future, remarking, "I am excited about the many opportunities ahead for Bellevue as the city continues to grow and plan for the future." She also spoke of the privilege it is to contribute her skills and experience toward the city’s thriving future. Tanus's background is as diverse as her professional expertise. She immigrated to the United States as a child and has since planted her roots firmly in the Pacific Northwest. She boasts an academic history with a bachelor's degree in architecture and a minor in business administration from Washington State University, followed by a juris doctor degree from the University of Washington. Furthermore, Tanus is a recognized member of the Washington State Bar Association.
