Starting January 20, there will be major roadwork on East 21st Street, between South Yale Avenue and South Sheridan Road. The City of Tulsa will be milling, patching, and repaving the road, causing changes to traffic patterns.
Traffic will be challenged to quickly adapt, as the first phase of construction involves the closure of both eastbound lanes, while keeping westbound lanes open to tentatively manage two-way traffic. This initial setup should precede a second phase where roles reverse; the westbound lanes will be scheduled to close, and eastbound lanes will then open for the two-way traffic flow, as reported by the City of Tulsa.
Along with the new asphalt, infrastructure improvements are on the docket, notably upgrading sidewalks, curbs, and the installation of new stormwater drainage systems. These enhancements are part of a broader commitment by the City of Tulsa to modernize and maintain its roadway systems.
Teamwork between the municipality and Becco Contractors aims to to seamlessly navigate through this project, which comes with a price tag of $2,437,000, as reported on the City of Tulsa's official website. The funds for this undertaking are sourced from the Improve Our Tulsa 2 sales tax extension. The expected project completion is slated for November 2025, assuming all goes as planned with the construction schedule.
While this project signals progress and long-term benefits for the city's infrastructure, commuters will need to exercise patience and plan for extra travel time. Stay informed on construction updates and detours to minimize disruption to your daily routes over the coming months.
