A Turtle Creek resident, identified as Deon Dutrieuille, 24, entered a guilty plea to firearm possession by a convicted felon, according to a federal court announcement made by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan.
The Monroeville Police Department encountered Dutrieuille during a retail theft investigation at Monroeville Mall on November 25, 2023. They discovered him seated in a vehicle wearing stolen attire. He fled upon being recognized for an outstanding warrant before being captured and subsequently taken into custody. It was there that the authorities found a stolen Glock handgun stamped with Dutrieuille's fingerprints inside his vehicle, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office official report.
Under federal law, individuals with a felony record are barred from owning firearms or ammunition, placing Dutrieuille, who has several such previous convictions, squarely in violation of this statute. He faced his charges before Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer.
Dutrieuille is scheduled for sentencing on April 15 and could face up to 15 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000 or both. While Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway leads the prosecution, the actual sentence will consider the severity of the current offense and Dutrieuille's criminal history; the investigation was a collaborative effort between the Monroeville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office lending its assistance.
