Two individuals were arrested and charged with murder after a man was fatally shot inside a Whitehall home yesterday night. Whitehall Division of Police responded to the incident around 10:05 p.m., following a call to a residence on the 4500 block of Ludington Road near Hamilton Road, as detailed in a report from WBNS.
Upon their arrival, police apprehended two suspects outside the home mentioned above. Inside, officers discovered a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Jyren Lyles and 20-year-old Christian Byrd, are now booked in the Franklin County jail. NBC4i confirmed these details.
The investigation suggests that the altercation triggering the fatal shooting evolved from a domestic dispute. The victim, who was related to the two men charged, was not identified at the time of the reports. "This is a heartbreaking example of domestic violence that ended in tragedy," Lt. Tanner Williams was quoted by WBNS.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, one of the suspects had a prior encounter with law enforcement in July 2023, where he was charged with domestic violence and assault after allegedly punching his sister in the arm. Those charges were later dismissed. Both Lyles and Byrd are scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, and the investigation into the circumstances that led to this fatal shooting remains ongoing.
