
Early Sunday morning, a serious accident occurred on US-283 near Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Rene G. De La Cruz, 59, from Elk City, was driving a Ford F-350 north when it started to fishtail and crossed into the opposite lane, hitting a Nissan NV3500 driven by Misti D. Morris, 39, from Cheyenne. Both drivers died from their injuries, but De La Cruz survived despite being critically injured and was taken to the hospital, according to KECO.
The collision, which occurred approximately seven miles south of Cheyenne near E 1040 Road, resulted in Morris being trapped in her vehicle for an extended period. "She was pinned in the vehicle for over five hours before being freed by first responders," as reported by the Berlin Fire Department, and confirmed dead at the scene. Thomas J. Stampul, a 24-year-old passenger in the F-350, was also pronounced dead at the location of the accident as stated by KECO.
De La Cruz after his initial treatment at Great Plains Regional Hospital in Elk City, was transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City as per the account by KSWO. The accident details are sparse at the moment, however, the investigation is ongoing and further reports are expected to explain the cause of the tragic collision, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is meticulously sifting through the evidence.
Both vehicles' occupants were documented to have been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, except for Morris. The crash remains under active investigation, with particulars such as road conditions, and any potential external factors that may have contributed to the vehicle's sudden loss of control being looked into by authorities.
