The Upper Arlington Police Division has a new addition to their force, Officer Isaac Brown, who recently completed comprehensive training at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. Graduating yesterday, Brown earned his stripes through an intense 21-week course in August 2024. His successful program completion was announced on the official city website of Upper Arlington.
This highly respected academy is not just any training ground. It boasts the "STAR-certified" accolade from the Ohio Attorney General's Office, a testament to the academy's high standards of excellence in law enforcement education. The program is especially thorough, having met and, in many cases, exceeded the requirements of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. It spans over 150 subjects, including, but not limited to, criminal law, traffic law, and emergency vehicle operations.
The curriculum at the academy doesn't just focus on the theoretical aspects of policing. It also emphasizes practical skills required in the field. According to the City of Upper Arlington official website, graduates like Officer Brown are trained extensively in firearms use, physical conditioning, self-defense, community relations, and conducting field sobriety tests – skills that are indubitably fundamental to the day-to-day functions of a peace officer.
Post-graduation, Officer Brown isn't just hitting the streets of Upper Arlington untested. He is set to undergo an additional 16 weeks of field training under the wing of seasoned officers from the Upper Arlington Police Division. This further immersion in the daily realities of policing will refine his already substantial academy training, firmly grounding him in the practicalities of serving and protecting the community.
The City of Upper Arlington is rightfully proud to share the picture featuring Chief Keith Hall, Officer Isaac Brown, and Lieutenant Jason Messer, marking this commendable milestone in Officer Brown's career. It speaks volumes about his dedication, professionalism, and readiness to tackle the challenges of modern-day policing.
