Uxbridge Superintendent Michael Baldassarre was arrested for drunk driving after allegedly speeding at 100 mph on Interstate 495 and nearly causing a crash. The 51-year-old faces charges of operating under the influence, negligent driving, speeding, and a marked lanes violation, as reported by NBC Boston.
At 2:40 a.m. last Saturday, Massachusetts State Police stopped Baldassarre, who showed signs of being drunk, including slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. He admitted to drinking and failed or refused sobriety tests. A receipt from the Victory Cigar Bar showed he had consumed alcohol. He was uncooperative during the arrest and released on personal recognizance. He is due in court on March 3, and a judge has prohibited him from driving until he’s legally licensed, according to NBC Boston.
The Uxbridge School Committee is considering appointing an interim superintendent and discussing Baldassarre's future in an executive session. Committee chair Ben Casper confirmed Baldassarre informed him of his arrest, saying, "He has a personal issue, and he’ll be handling that personally." Baldassarre, superintendent since July 2022, faced controversies including budget issues, disputes with town officials, and opposition to his contract extension, which was later followed by a shift in the committee's membership, as stated by Telegram.
