In a public recognition of service and solidarity, Wake Forest Power (WFP) has been commended by the American Public Power Association (APPA) for its efforts in restoring electricity in the wake of Hurricanes Milton and Helene, which battered Florida last year. When the storms struck, causing widespread devastation and upheaval, WFP dispatched its crews to aid the affected communities of Bartow and Ocala, providing a much-needed lifeline as part of the APPA's Mutual Aid Network.
The aftermath of the hurricanes saw dozens of fatalities and left millions without power – a dire situation WFP stepped into to ease. According to the Wake Forest town's official news release, the utility's involvement exemplifies public power's core philosophy of cooperation and mutual support. Kip Padgett, Town Manager of Wake Forest, commented on the recognition, "We are committed to the ideal of neighbor helping neighbor," and through APPA's mutual aid program, "we can demonstrate that commitment by answering the call when our neighbors are in need – whether they are next door or thousands of miles away."
