A Tennessee man has found himself in custody after spinning a yarn about a highway robbery, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office. Billy Wayne Fults, Sr., 70, claimed he was robbed at gunpoint by a duo – a man and a woman. The apparent victim reported this harrowing encounter at the crossroads of Yager Road and Short Mountain Road.
Fults, initially acting as the distressed party, described to deputies how he was flagged down by a woman claiming distress due to a truck breakdown. This narrative quickly escalated when Fults recounted how he was subsequently ambushed from behind by a male accomplice who allegedly pressed a gun into his back and demanded money. Yet, as WSMV details, the supposed crime was nothing more than a fabrication.
Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny and his team of investigators tirelessly followed leads that eventually proved Fults' story to be unfounded. Fults conceded the truth, admitting to the fabricated crime before being arrested, as reported by the official Warren County Sheriff's Department Facebook page. The department thanked the public for their cooperation and the diligent efforts of its investigators.
Following his confession, Fults was charged with filing a false report, a turn of events led him behind bars. "Mr. Fults gave a full confession to the false allegation prior to his arrest," according to WGNS Radio. He awaits his arraignment, which is scheduled for later this week before General Sessions Judge Ryan J. Moore.
